1945 Paul E. Leimkuehler of Cleveland Ohio was severely injured during
the World War II Battle of the Bulge and as a result, his left leg and one
finger were amputated. Paul, being a results-driven type of person, persuaded
those in charge of the medical facility to allow him to assist in the limb and
brace shop and he eventually made his own prosthesis.
1949 Paul became a Certified Prosthetist and opened his own business in
Cleveland .
1959 Mr. Leimkuehler made the decision to open an O&P supply business. That
business, PEL Supply Company (the name was derived from his initials)
initially distributed supplies to a very limited number of customers and
represented only one vendor.
Today
PEL Supply is independently owned by Paul Leimkuehler's four descendants.
Paul's daughter, Paulette Vaughn, is still involved in the company and serves
as Executive Vice President handling national advertising.
From the very humble beginnings in 1959, PEL
Supply Company has grown into a world-wide distributor representing over 250
vendors and showing 45,000+ items in three major catalogs.
Independent industry research studies consistently rank PEL Supply Company's
Customer Service Representatives at or near the top in friendliness, accuracy,
efficiency and overall response. Our Toll-free Customer Service lines are open
